The online journalism in Macedonia follows, more or less, the standard development as in other developing countries, only the development/growth in Macedonia is going a little bit slower.

The online versions of the daily newspapers were created as online archives of the print versions, and unfortunately even today most of them are not more than that. Some have redesigned their look but the organizational change towards online content development was lacking. Still 99% of the content is first printed and after that is posted online.

There were/are few attempts of creating web only news sites but all of them were supported by some NGO donors or similar, and were/are not commercially sustainable, something that is also characteristic for all Macedonian online news sites. Until recently they were not even trying to develop sustainable online model.

However, good winds are coming as in the last 12 months there were several projects that provided computers for many Macedonians and further more the prices for access to internet became more affordable, nowadays the online readership is bigger and there are new investments/efforts in the online news area.

Dnevnik.com.mk - online version of the most popular daily newspaper Dnevnik published by MPM - owned by The WAZ Media Group
